JsonRpcRemote is in pre-alpha and under active development. This documentation describes the development version on main, which may differ from the latest release, and more features are coming: see Status and roadmap.

JsonRpcRemote

A modern alternative to Robot Framework's Remote library, built on JSON-RPC 2.0.

Language-agnostic

The protocol is JSON-RPC 2.0, a simple, standardized protocol that every common programming language supports. A server that offers keywords can be written in any of them; the protocol describes what it has to do.

Any library, remote

robot-jsonrpcremote-server makes almost any Robot Framework library remote without code: Robot Framework itself imports and runs it, with the library’s arguments from the suite.

Started with the tests

Over stdio, the client starts the server for a session and stops it again. Over TCP, it connects to a server on another machine or in a container.

Several libraries, one server

One server serves several libraries, and a suite imports each of them by name.

Logs while keywords run

Log messages of a remote keyword reach the Robot Framework log while the keyword runs.

Sessions and connect retry

A session lasts a test, a suite or the whole run. Lost connections are detected, and connect retry waits for a server that is not reachable yet.

JsonRpcRemote is in pre-alpha: Status and roadmap lists what works today and what is planned.
